UZBEKISTAN IN A NUTSHELL
Uzbekistan increasingly moves into the focus of international procurement interest. Over the past decade, the international textile sector has experienced enormous shifts in global economic power and international trade flows. The corona crisis has further accelerated this development and made the structural changes clearly visible. Since Uzbekistan has focused on sustainability in cotton cultivation and promotes state-of-the-art processing in its own country, contacts between German and Uzbek companies have noticeably intensified. Opportunely located on the Silk Road, Uzbekistan is open to trade and has good conditions to become an industry platform for the entire region. Against the background of the vast German consumer market, the German textile and clothing industry with its worldwide leading role in textile technology is predestined as Uzbekistan’s preferred cooperation partner in Europe.
Funded by the Gesellschaft für Internationale Zusammenarbeit (GIZ) in cooperation with the German Association of the Knitwear Industry (Gesamtmasche), the project aims at supporting Uzbek apparel manufacturers to exploit export opportunities resulting from its GSP+ status, enabling the sector to export free of duties and quotas to the European Union.
Next to receiving key information on market access and entry, Uzbek manufacturers will participate in a B2B mission to Germany where they will meet potential clients such as brands or retailers.
On 11 April 2025, a Business Forum will be held in Stuttgart to present opportunities for projects in Uzbekistan, reaching out to all stakeholders with an interest in exploring the country and its companies. A detailed programme will be available shortly.
All participating companies have been screened and assessed vis-a-vis quality, capacity and compliance.

Founded in 1916, the Confederation of the German Knitting Industry – GESAMTMASCHE – is the leading national trade association representing German producers of knitted fashion, bodywear and knitted fabrics for fashion and technical applications. German knitwear brands are internationally successful and hold a prominent market share in Europe. German knits have always been more than just fashion, they incorporate social trends, technical innovation, new materials and fashion culture. Unique design, the use of superior yarns and state-of-the-art technology form the basis of their international success. About 250 companies belong to the sector, this represents 7.8 billion Euros of exports per year.
GUZ Partners is a project to promote and strengthen German-Uzbek textile business partnership and cooperation throughout the textile production chain, from fibre to fashion. The textile associations GESAMTMASCHE and UZTEKSTILPROM jointly implement the project and inform the public on its progress. The project is financed by the German Federal Ministry of Economic Cooperation and Development and supported by sequa gGmbH.
Project “Effectively using of GSP+ in Uzbekistan through awareness raising and capacity building of the private sector”, implemented by Deutsche Gesellschaft für Internationale Zusammenarbeit (GIZ) GmbH from the bilateral Study and Expert Fund for Uzbekistan of the German Federal Ministry for Economic Cooperation and Development (BMZ).
The project aims to support the private sector in Uzbekistan to effectively use the Generalized System of Preferences (GSP+) of the European Union (EU) to increase the export of Uzbek goods, in particular textiles and agricultural products, to the European market.
The Ministry of Investment, Industry, and Trade of Uzbekistan was established based on the Ministry of Investments and Foreign Trade by Presidential Decree No. UP-269 on December 21, 2022, as part of administrative reforms. The Ministry's primary tasks include implementing a unified state investment policy, improving the investment environment, attracting foreign direct investment, and ensuring the efficiency of investment projects.
The Ministry expands cooperation with international economic and financial institutions, coordinates the attraction of external assistance, and implements state industrial policy to diversify and increase the competitiveness of various industries, including textile. It also oversees the introduction of international standards, licensing production activities, and regulating trade. It supports the development of foreign trade infrastructure, enhances export routes, conducts market research, and strengthens economic ties with foreign countries.
